Dana & André. Saturday, February 17, 2018. Medford, Oregon
These are some posters I made for Willamette's annual music festival between 2007-2010. Pretty silly, but I love 'em because they are the first posters I ever made.
I visited ASI for the first time ever and I was obsessing over the details in these tile fire places (called kakelugnar in Swedish). They are not the best photos, the mansion is dimly lit to protect the artifacts, but you get the idea. Obviously the pink, yellow, blue one is my favorite. According to the didactic they were ordered from a catalog in 1888.
I made this animation last year for school. The Dala horse is from a shop in Stockholm. I think I got the rooster at a flee market in Oslo and the giraffe is from a thrift store in Minneapolis.
Just a couple of hand-painted planters from around the house. (Can you tell I'm a plant lady?)
The Dot Chairs
The Dot Chairs (before they were the Dot Chairs) were a Craigslist find. Each chair was $6 + the price of paint. Furniture designer and friend, Dylan, had extra red velvet. I supplied the staple gun and she rehapolsterd the cushions. Overall it was a steal.
I was looking at the bright palettes of Memphis style furniture. After David Bowie's death I was enamored with his stunning Memphis collection that was being auctioned (😪). After a few sketches I started with the spray paint. Although the chairs turned out a little more "Cruella Deville" than planned, I like my wacky chairs, and I think Pee-wee Herman would be proud.
The Sun Dress
Inspired by Solange's gold tinsel dress in her Cranes in the Sky video, I created my best imitation using a thrift store dress, gold tinsel and copious amounts of hot glue. The replica was created for Halloween 2016. The dress was also worn by local artist and performer (and friend) Itch Princess a.k.a. Kate Farstad during a performance at the White Page Gallery.
Screenshots from the Cranes in the Sky video. Although I could not find an exact credit for the dress, it was most likely designed by Tina Knowles, german designer Nadine Goepfert or Solange herself. Update: The dress was designed by Tina Knowles and Tim White.
The dress took two tries to complete, if you look in the bottom left corner of the above image you can see the destroyed first attempt. I had to strip off the tinsel to start again.
